Bithumb's former CEO receives $3.5 million in jail
According to Cointelegraph, Lee Sang-jun, former CEO of Bithumb Holdings, who is serving his sentence, received about 4.7 billion won (about 3.5 million US dollars) in 2024, including a bonus of 2 billion won (1.4 million US dollars), a pension of 2.2 billion won (1.5 million US dollars) and a basic salary of 470 million won (320,000 US dollars). A Bithumb spokesman said the compensation payment was due to Lee playing a key role in establishing the corporate institutional foundation and improving the protection of customers’ assets. Lee Sang-jun was found guilty in December 2024 on the charge of accepting luxury gifts and benefits in exchange for token listing. Although prosecutors accused him of receiving 30 billion won (about $20 million) in cash, the court acquitted him but upheld a guilty verdict for other forms of bribery. He was sentenced to two years in prison and fined about 50 million won ($37,000).
