Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States will supposedly begin on April 9, according to a widely known leading insider. Best Buy Canada, on the other hand, said that it would take pre-orders on April 2 in a since-removed blog post.

The industry insider, Henderson, cited emails and documents from a large retailer. He says the retailer expects the entire stock to sell out on April 9, despite Nintendo supposedly importing a significant number of units into the country.

Recently, Best Buy Canada said that it would start taking pre-orders on April 2 in a blog post. However, the store quickly pulled back the announcement.

Henderson’s report suggests a staggered timeline across different regions. If his claim is accurate, the Switch 2’s pre-order schedule will vary by market.

Best Buy Canada offered no pricing data, so the expected cost could remain unconfirmed until the April 2 event. Analysts say the Switch 2 might come out in June 2025.

Many observers at the latest Game Developers Conference believed Nintendo’s new console would hit shelves in June. However, it may launch on different days across the globe, similar to the 2017 Switch. That system took two more years to appear in China, and it arrived in Brazil only in 2020.

The Switch 2 is likely to be the most expensive Nintendo device yet

The Switch 2 may be Nintendo’s priciest device yet. It follows the original Switch’s $299 launch price, a figure that remained unchanged for much of its lifecycle.

Some industry experts say the price would be between $399 and $499. Even a $399 tag could be cheaper than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System when adjusted for inflation. That machine was released at a price of $199 back in 1990, which is worth around $459 today.

The launch event could also unveil the Switch 2’s initial lineup of games, including any first-party titles set to accompany the console at launch.

Henderson’s claim of April 9 for the U.S. has sparked plenty of talk online. Nintendo’s silence may end on April 2, and if the insider’s documents hold up, American buyers can place their orders one week later.

The rush to secure a Switch 2 could be intense if supply struggles to keep pace with demand, especially given Henderson’s report of a possible day-one sellout.
