On April 7, Hassett, director of the U.S. National Economic Commission, said it was time to moderately ease (tariff) wording. He downplayed economic concerns about Trump's tariffs, saying the U.S. president has been holding talks with world leaders throughout the weekend and will listen to suggestions on major deals. "He doubles down on what he knows is effective, and he will continue to do that," Hassett said. "But he will also listen to our trading partners and if they come up with us with really great deals that benefit American manufacturing and American farmers, I believe he will listen."
