On April 8, according to US media Axios, Trump will veto legislation proposed by Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington and Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa to restrict the president's unilateral tariffs. Seven Republican senators have signed the bipartisan legislation that is becoming a way for Republicans to express their concerns about Trump’s tariff policies.
"It is not common for a bill to be first introduced to have so many people, but I think it shows people's anxiety," Cantwell said. Trump is annoyed by the bill's proposal, according to a person familiar with Trump's ideas. A government policy statement sent to the U.S. Congress office today stated: "If this bill is passed, it will hinder the president's authority and responsibilities to establish our foreign policy and protect our national security, and if the bill is passed in Congress and handed over to the president, he will veto the bill."
