A cryptocurrency lawyer sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, claiming that the department may know who the creator of Bitcoin was — and asked the department to share what it knows. The Freedom of Information Act lawsuit was filed by James Murphy, based on claims made by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Rana Saoud at a meeting in April 2019. Soder said at the meeting that several of her colleagues had previously met with four people who participated in the creation of Bitcoin. "My Freedom of Information Act lawsuit only requires notes, emails and other documents related to that so-called meeting," Murphy posted on X platform after announcing the lawsuit on April 7. “If that meeting really happened, as DHS agents claimed, then there should be a document of the contents of that meeting,” Murphy added, using the username “MetaLawMan” on X.
