On April 12, CZ posted a message on X platform to respond to the Wall Street Journal article today, saying: "The Wall Street Journal is really working hard. They seem to have forgotten who went to jail and who didn't. People who become government witnesses will not go to jail. They are protected. I heard that someone paid the Wall Street Journal staff to discredit me."

Previous reports, the Wall Street Journal quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that during the Biden administration, the U.S. Department of Justice has been investigating Justin Sun's alleged financial crimes, and it is not clear whether the investigation is still in progress. Some people familiar with the matter said he has agreed to provide prosecutors with evidence about Justin Sun as part of the CZ plea agreement.
