Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi announced on April 15 that the Panama capital would accept cryptocurrency payments for taxes and municipal fees, including bus tickets and permits, joining the ranks of a growing number of jurisdictions around the world that voted to accept such payments. Mizrachi posted on the X platform that once the payment track of cryptocurrencies to fiat currencies is established, Panama City will begin to accept Bitcoin, Ether, Circle's USDC and Tether's USDT stablecoins as payment methods. Mizrachi said previous administrations had tried to push for similar legislation but failed to break through regulations requiring local governments to accept dollars-denominated funds.
