The Huli District Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against Chen for the crime of theft in accordance with the law. According to Article 264 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, if theft of public and private property is particularly huge or there are other particularly serious circumstances, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of more than ten years or life imprisonment, and shall be fined or confiscated of property.


After trial, the court sentenced Chen to eleven years in prison and a fine for the crime of theft.
