MetAmask adds local Bitcoin and Solana in 2025, and more: Details…
- The leading self-monitoring crypto wallet Metamask is moving ahead with a significant leap forward in Ethereum-based assets. During Ethdenver 2025, co-founder Dan Finlay revealed that users will soon be able to store, send and exchange Bitcoin (BTC) and Solana (Sol) directly in MetAmask.
Ethdenver 2025's main announcements
1. Local Bitcoin Integration (Q3 2025)
- MetAmask supports Bitcoin locally for the first time without packaging BTC or third-party bridges.
- Users can send, receive and exchange BTC in the MetAmask interface.
- This eliminates the need for separate Bitcoin wallets, making BTC management more seamless.
2. Solana Support (May 2025)
-Solana (Sol) will be the first non-EVM chain integrated into MetAmask.
- Users can buy, sell and interact with Solana-based DAPPs directly from their wallets.
- Solana users will also benefit from MetAmask's security features and multi-chain compatibility.
3. Gas fee flexibility (March 2025)
- Users will no longer need to hold ETH's gas fee, but can pay with any tokens in their wallet.
- This reduces transaction failures due to insufficient ETH balance.
- The game rules for Defi users have been changed, making cross-chain transactions more smooth.
4. Batch Transactions (ERC-5792)
- According to Ethereum's new ERC-5792 standard, MetAmask will introduce batch transactions to simplify approval. Example: One click instead of two separate steps, "Approval + Exchange".
- Save time and reduce user gas bills.
5. MetamaskMetal Mastercard (March 2025)
- Metamask is launching crypto debit cards and the EU in the United States, the United Kingdom.
- Users can accept Mastercard's cryptocurrency anywhere.
- Make storage rewards and earnings profits available for daily purchases.
6. Programmable accounts that can be upgraded with Ethereum's Pectra
- MetAmask is upgrading its account, available with built-in:
- Multisig Security - Users can require multiple approvals before executing a transaction.
- Two-factor authentication (2FA) - Added protection against unauthorized transactions.
- AI-driven authorized access - Users can automate certain transactions through smart contracts.
7. Enhanced security features
- MetAmask is handling the robot and MEV sandwich attacks before running.
- In July 2024 alone, MEV attacks lost $11 million - Metamask's goal is to significantly reduce these risks.
- The company claims that users swapped in MetAmask are 400 times less likely to be affected by the MEV vulnerability.
8. Multi-chain API ever (June 2025)
- The new multi-chain API will allow DAPP to connect to multiple networks simultaneously.
- This will improve cross-chain Defi interaction
